Sant Joan del Codolar

Sant Joan del Codolar.

An hermitage between pebbles.

This hermitage is 3km far from Cornudella, at feet of the cliffs of Sant Joan of Serra de Montsant. Its name is for the big rocks or "pebbles" which surround it. Chartusian monks built the hermitage at the end of XV century, and many hermits have inhabited it.

Even today lives an hermit, who takes care of the hermitage and its maintenance, which makes it possibly the only hermit of the region that can be visited usually. It held three festivals: Sant Joan, Sant Joan Degollat (29th August) and Sant Antoni.
